ABOUNDING IN THE WORK OF THE LORD
1 Corinthians 15:58 (KJV)
Introduction
A. The Christian life is a life of work. Ephesians 2:8-10
B. We sing about working for the Lord. For example, “To The Work,” page 113.
C. Let’s use 1 Corinthians 15:58 to develop our lesson about abounding in the work
of the Lord.
Body
I. God’s work is for all Christians.
A. The apostle Paul addressed, “my beloved brethren.”
1. It’s not for elders, deacons, preachers and the spiritually mature only. It is
for everyone. 1 Corinthians 12:14-20
2. There is room in the church for everyone. Song, “Room In God’s Kingdom”
II. God’s work requires conviction (steadfastness and immovability).
A. The Corinthians were hindered in their work by doubts and problems.
Examples:
B. Our work is related to our faith. James 2:14-17, 20, 26
III. God’s work involves consistency (always abounding).
A. Always isn’t just on Sunday. ……. isn’t just when we are being watched, ……
isn’t just when we want to.
B. Abounding means “to be over and above; to excel.” It’s not just getting by.
IV. God’s work is not in vain.
A. Often we do things in life that are in vain, but God’s work involves a promise.
“forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” Matthew 10:
40-42; Matthew 25:32-40
Conclusion
A. “Am I abounding in Lord’s work?” If yes, continue. If no, repent.
