Judges 3:5-11 (200)

         A.  Our Lord said in Matthew 5:13-16 (705)

               1.  Our Lord expects us to use our influence to make a difference.
               2.  Are we making a difference in our communities, families and local church?

         B.  Let’s read in Judges 3:5-11 (200) about a man named Othniel who made a difference-
               in Israel.

         C.  Let’s consider three principles that will enable us to make the difference God desires
for us to make using Othniel as an example.

     I.  Be faithful in small matters.

         A.  Othniel had been successful in lesser tasks. Joshua 15:16-17 (189)

         B.  We can learn to make a difference by being faithful in lesser tasks.  Hymn Number 80

               1.  Being faithful in small matters will prepare us for greater service.  Luke 16:10-12

   II.  Meet a need.

         A.  The people of Israel needed a leader and Othniel met that need.  Judges 3:9 (200)

         B.  There are needs for us to meet.  Examples:  Teaching the gospel (Matthew 28:18-20
P 730); Bringing others back into a relationship with God (Galatians 6:1-2,p 862).

         C.  When we meet the needs of people, we will have a deeper sense of purpose because
we will be doing what God saved us to do.  Ephesians 2:8-10 (864)

         D.  We will be rewarded for meeting the needs of people.  Matthew 25:31-34, 37-40 (726)

  III.  Depend on God.

         A.  As Othniel did.  Judges 3:10 200)

         B.  God will equip us when He gives us a task.  Philippians 1:6,2:13(867) ; Ephesians 3:
               20-21 (864)

Conclusion:  Question:  Can I make a difference in my community, family and church?
Be faithful _____________, Meet _______________ and __________ on God.
