BENEFITS OF SUFFERING

  Introduction

       A.  Would you like to suffer for a period of time?  If we had our way we’d like to

              live a life without any problems, any pain and any struggles.  Illustrate.

       B.   Is this reality?  Let’s ask Job.  Job 14:1; 7:1 (414&411)

       C.   Let’s consider several benefits of suffering.

  I.  Gives us victory over sin.  1 Peter 4:1-3

       A.   Those who serve God faithfully while they suffer have a different attitude toward

              sin than what they previously held.  Explain

  II.  Reminds us of our weaknesses.  2 Corinthians 12:7-10

III.  Shows our need for God.  Job 14:1; 2 Corinthians 1:9-10.  Important reminder.

       Hebrews 9:27a

IV.  Teaches and enables us to help others when they suffer.  2 Corinthians 1:3-7

V.   Provides potential for growth.  James 1:2-5 (891)

Conclusion

      A.   Suffering will play a vital role in our lives.  It will come to us.  Job 14:1
