GIVING HONOR TO CHRIST
John 5:22-23
Introduction
A. Three principles are taught in verse 23.
1. All people should honor the Son as they honor the Father.
2. Those who don’t honor the Son don’t honor the Father.
3. To honor the Son is to honor the Father.
B. Let’s look at five ways in which we honor the Christ.
Body
I. We honor Christ when we confess Him to be the Christ, the Son of
the living God.
A. The apostle Peter made this confession. Matthew 16:13-19
B. The apostle John made this confession and wrote a book to support it. John 20:
30-31
C. Question: Have I confessed Jesus to be the Christ, the Son of the living God?
II. We honor Christ when we obey His command to be baptized.
Matthew 28:18-19
A. Question: Have I honored Christ by obeying His command to be baptized?
III. We honor Christ by wearing His name.
A. As His church: Matthew 16:18; Romans 16:16
B. As individual Christians: Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Peter 4:15
C. Question: Do I wear Christ’s name?
IV. We honor Christ as we observe the Lord’s Supper. Matthew 26:26-28
A. Question: Do I honor Christ by observing the Lord’s Supper?
V. We honor Christ by patterning our lives after His life. Philippians 2:5;
1 Peter 2:21-25;
A. loving: John 13:34-35; forgiving: Luke 23:34; serving: Matt. 20: 28
Conclusion
A. To honor Jesus is to honor God. John 14:6; Matthew 10:33
