WHEN THE WELL RUNS DRY
Isaiah 40: 21-31
Introduction:
A. Here is an old adage that teaches an important principle: “You don’t miss your water til
the well runs dry.”
Examples:
B. What happens when the well runs dry? What happens when we face a crisis?
1. We have two options available: 1) we can depend on ourselves and settle for the
consequences, or 2) we can turn to God and trust in Him and receive victory.
I. Let’s note the prophet Isaiah’s response to the people of the Southern Kingdom of Israel
who were living in exile in Babylon.
A. These people were in exile because of their rebellion against God, but notice their
concern. v. 27
1. They were complaining: God has lost track of us. God doesn’t care what happens
to us.
2. Isaiah responded. Vs. 28, 21-22 . Don’t you know? Have you been listening?, etc.
B. How can we handle out frustrations with the problems of life?
1. We must ______________ in God.
God’s sovereignty: v. 28
God’s omnipresence: v. 22
God’s omniscience: v. 28
God’s omnipotence: vs. 22, 25-26
2. We must __________ on God. v. 31
Meaning and illustration of the word wait. Results of “waiting” on God are

Conclusion:
A. Two options when the well runs dry: 1) depend on self. Jeremiah 10: 23, or 2) depend on God. Prov. 3: 5-6
