LIVING IN THE LAND OF HARAN (HALFWAY)
                                                    Genesis 11:31- 32 (p8)

  Introduction

        A.  Terah moved his family from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan.
              1.  They settled in Haran, which was about 500 miles from Ur and about 500
                   miles from Canaan, and there Terah died having gone only halfway to his
                   destination.

        B.  There are Christians and churches who know where they should be going, but
              they have settled in the “land of Haran,” in a spiritual sense.

        C.  Let’s consider several fundamental truths about “living in Haran.” (Halfway)

    I.  Halfway is an enemy to:

        A.  Realizing our goals.

              1.  What should we do?  Luke 14:28-33.  We must count the cost.

        B.  Developing high moral standards.  1 Peter 5:8

              1.  What should we do?  1 Peter 5:9.  Resist satan and stand firm in the faith.

        C.   Growing spiritually mature.  It is not enough to put away old attitudes
               and habits.

               1.  We must also apply good attitudes and habits.  Ephesians 4:25-31 (865);
                    Ephesians 6:10-18.  Put on the full armor of God.

        D.   Serving God.  Studying and learning God’s word, etc. are not enough.

               1.  We must be doers of the word.  James 1:22-25 (892)

  II.  Why are people willing to settle in “Haran?”  Because of:

        A.   ignorance,  Hosea 4:6;  B.  laziness,  Prov. 15:19;

        C.   comfort Luke 9:23;  D.  procrastination.

  Conclusion:  Begin, continue and remove whatever is keeping us in the “land of Haran”
                      We don’t want to die there.  1 Corinthians 15:58 (851)
