PRAYER
                                                              Jeremiah 33:1-3 (584)

   Introduction

       A.  Background
             1.  The prophet Jeremiah had been imprisoned by King Zedekiah for declaring that
Jerusalem would fall to the Chaldeans and that Zedekiah would be taken captive.
                  Jeremiah 32:1-5
        B.  While Jeremiah was in the court of the prison, he received a message from God for
              the people.  Jeremiah 33:1-3

        C.  Let’s use V3 and develop a study about prayer.

    I.  God wanted the people to call or pray to Him.  “Call to Me.”

        A.  Let’s consider five hindrances to prayer.

              1.  A failure to practice the habit of prayer.  1 Thessalonians 5:17 (874); 1
                   Samuel 12:23 (231)

              2.  Ignorance about prayer.  Luke 11:1 (762)

              3.  Unconfessed sin.  Isaiah 59:1-2

              4.  Improper motive.  James 4:2-3 (893)

              5.  A lack of persistence.  Matthew 7:7 (707)

II.  “I will answer.” Jeremiah 33:3

        A.  Conditions necessary to receive God’s answer.

              1.  We must ask in faith.  Matthew 21:22 (721)

              2.  We must let God’s word abide in us.  John 15:7 (794)

              3.  We must pray in the name of Jesus.  John 14:13 (794); Hebrews 4:14-16 (885)

              4.  We must expect an answer.  Jeremiah 33:3

Conclusion

        A.  Do I have a healthy habit of prayer?  Question: If the answer is “no” then what is the
              problem?  You can correct it!
