PURITY IN THE LOCAL CHURCH

   Introduction

        A.  While these verses can be applied in several ways, let’s consider the necessity of
              purity in the local church.
        B.  Christian purity is taught through the New Testament.  Examples:  Philippians 4:8

        C.  Three practices that are necessary for purity in the local church.

    I.  Pure doctrine must be taught.

        A.  Pertinent passages:  2 Timothy 1:13 (879); Titus 2:1 (881); 2 Timothy 4:1-2

        B.  The possibility of corruption is ever before us.  2 Timothy 4:2-6; Titus 3:10

        C.  Pure doctrine will make us clean.  John 15:3-4 (794)

  II.  Pure lives must be lived.

        A.  Importance of heart:  Matthew 5:8 (705); speech:  1 Peter 3:10 (896); deeds:  2 Cor.
              7:1 (855)

        B.  Can be maintained by three practices

              1.  Reading and studying God’s word.  2 Timothy 3:16-17 (880)

              2.  Anticipating eternal life.  1 John 3:2-3 (900)

              3.  Mutual encouragement.  1 Corinthians 11:30-32 (848)

  III. Pure love must be practiced.

        A.  Love is greatest gift.  1 Corinthians 13:1-8 (849)

        B.  Love one another.  John 13:34-35 (793)
