YOUNG PEOPLE'S LESSON
THE TONGUE
                                                                       James 3:2-10


  Introduction:
     A.  I want us to think about one of the most dangerous things in the                   world.
     B.  Use Mr Potato-Head as a prop.  Give clues to determine if young                   people can guess this dangerous thing.

I want us to consider three reasons why our tongue is dangerous. James 3:2-6

  I.  Although the tongue is small, it's very powerful.
     A.  James illustrates that small things can be powerful.
           1.  The rudder of a big ship.
           2.  A bit in a horse's mouth.
           3.  A small spark starts a big forest fire.
     B.   Our tongue, even though it is small compared to the rest of the                       body, is powerful.  Illustrate

  II.  The tongue can't be tamed.  James 3:7-8
     A.   Illustrate.  The tongue is difficult to control.

III.  The tongue is used for good or evil.  James 3:9-10
           1.  Examples of good things.
           2.  Examples of evil things.

Conclusion:
      A.  What we say to other people can either build them up or tear them down!
      B.  God wants us to build people up.  Ephesians 4:29,32
      C.  Assignment:  This week make it a point to say something good to                 three people.  Can you do it?
