THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS

  Introduction:
      A.  There are certain attitudes that are prevalent at this time of the year.

Let's think concerning the spirit of Christmas.
  I.  A spirit of GIVING.
       A.  Christmas is a time for the exchanging of gifts.
       B.  Christianity is a giving religion.  Romans 6:23, Acts 2 :38
       C.  God teaches us to give.  James 1:27, II Corinthians 9:6-14

  II.  A spirit of RECEIVING.
        A. We enjoy receiving gifts at Christmas.
        B.  Our Heavenly Father gives to us.  Matthew 6:25-33, Titus 2:11
        C.  We should acknowledge the gifts of God and express our gratitude. II Corinthians 9:15

III.  A spirit of  FORGIVING.
        A.  Human hearts are softened during the Christmas season and reconciliations often occur.
        B.  Jesus, our Savior, teaches us to forgive.  Matthew 18:21-22

  IV.  A spirit of LOVE.
         A.  During the Christmas season, we see exhibitions of love.
         B.  Jesus gives us a command to love.  John 13:34-35

  Conclusion:
          A.  We have considered four attitudes that are prevalent during the Christmas season:
                giving, receiving, forgiving and love.
          B.   May God help us to make application of these attitudes during the entire year.
