Ephesians 2: 1-10 (863-864)


         A.  Spiritual death is the condition of all people who have sinned and are not converted.
               Romans 3:23 (831); Romans 6:23a (833)
         B.  Unconverted people are in a state of condemnation.  Ephesians 2:1-10
         C.  Let’s look at several truths from God’s word as we delve into a study dealing with
               spiritual death to spiritual life.

     I.  God’s word teaches us that people who are spiritually dead are separated from
         God.  Ephesians 4:17-19

   II.  The Bible teaches us that people who are spiritually dead rebel against God because
         they are controlled by satan.  Ephesians 2:1-2

  III.  God’s word teaches us the result of spiritual death.  Romans 6:23a; Matthew
         7:21-23 (708)

  IV.  The Bible teaches us the way of deliverance from spiritual death.

          A.  How we are not delivered.

                1.  Not by self.  Ephesians 2: 8, 1-3 (864)
                2.  Not by works.  Ephesians 2:9; Romans 4:1-8 (832)

          B.  We are delivered from spiritual death when we appropriate and identify with the
                sacrifice that Jesus made for us.  Ephesians 2:4-5,8

                1.  Note God’s love, mercy and grace; our faith.

                2.  We must identify or connect with the sacrifice of Jesus.  Colossians 2:9-14 (870)

    V.  What is the result of being delivered from spiritual death?

          A.  Freedom from sin.  Romans 6:22 (833)

          B.  A new life.  Romans 6:4; Ephesians 4:17-24 (865)

          C.  The promise of eternal life.  Romans 6:19-22 (833)

  Conclusion:  We have considered moving from spiritual death (Romans 6:23a) to spiritual life
