THE CHURCH JESUS BUILT (Lesson Two)
Matthew 16:18
Introduction
A. Last Sunday morning, we noted the background and the definition of the word “church.”
1. The church, in a christian sense, means the saved people who have been called out of the world; the called out assembly
of believers.
B. The church (christian sense) is used in the N.T. in two primary ways:
1. the universal church - the whole assembly of people who are saved, both living and dead;
2. the saved people who work and worship together in a certain locale.
I. Let’s note several differences between the universal church and the local church

Conclusion: Our concern with the universal church is our relationship with God/Christ. 1 John 1:7. Our concern with the local
church is also our relationship with one another. 1 John 1:7
