THE GOOD NEWS OF THE BIRTH OF JESUS
                                                                    Luke 2:8-14 (750)


    Introduction

         A.  December 25th has been designated as the day to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

         B.  This is the most important birth that has ever occurred.

         C.  Let’s read about the announcement of the birth of Jesus and note four reasons
               this announcement was good news.

     I.  Because it brought great joy. V10

          A.  The shepherd’s fear was replaced with joy.

          B.  We should have joy because of Jesus. 

                1.  When we suffer.  1 Peter 4:13 (897)

                2.  We should rejoice under all conditions.  Philippians 4:4 (869)

    II.  Because it is for all people.  Luke 2:10 (750)

   III.  Because Jesus saves sinners.  Luke 2:11 (750)

          A.  Jesus sacrificed Himself for our sins.  Romans 5:6-9 (832)

          B.  We are saved by the gospel, which is the good news of Christ’s sacrifice for us.
                1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (850)

          C.  We must appropriate and unite with the sacrifice Jesus made for us. Romans 6:3(832

   IV.  Because it glorified God.  Luke 2:13-14

          A.  Every time we use the name of Jesus, we glorify God.  The name Jesus means Jehovah
                saves.

Conclusion

          A. The good news of the birth of Jesus still affects us today and will continue into eternity
