THE POWERFUL WORD OF GOD
Hebrews 4:11-13 (885); 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (880)
Introduction
A. All scripture is given by inspiration (God breathed) of God (2 Timothy 3:16). God
is the author of the Bible.
B. God’s message is designed to lead us to maturity, and completely equip us for His
service. 2 Timothy 3:17
C. Let’s look at four aspects of the power of God’s word.
I. God’s word is a penetrating power. Hebrews 4:12
A. The metaphor two-edged sword is used to illustrate the penetrating power.
B. God’s word penetrates the innermost parts of a person to the division of soul and
spirit,etc.
C. It discerns (Hebs. 4:12d) and exposes (Hebs. 4:13) the spiritual condition of our
hearts.

II. God’s word is a guiding power. Psalm 119:105 (477)
A. As the word discerns and exposes our spiritual condition, God teaches us through
His word what we need. 2 Timothy 3:16-17: doctrine, reproof (rebuke), correction,
instruction (training), complete maturity and thoroughly equips.
B. Question:
III. God’s word is an overcoming power. 2 Timothy 3:16-17
A. Jesus used the word to overcome the temptations of satan in the wilderness. Matthew 4:

IV. God’s word is an enduring power. 1 Peter 1:22-25 (895)
A. God’s word exists today and it will exist in the future. Matthew 24:35
B. We can place our faith and trust in God’s word. Examples:
Conclusion: In ‘light’ of the power of God’s word, we must give attention to God’s word
through reading, studying, meditating and praying.
