THREE CROSSES

Introduction
A. The apostle John tells us that the place of our Lord’s crucifixion was Golgotha,
which means a skull.
B. A few comments about the word “Calvary” which is not the original word.
C. Three men were crucified that fateful day, Jesus, the Son of God, and two robbers,
one on either side (Matthew 27:38).
D. Let’s look at three crosses.
I. On one cross a man died in sin.
A. He had lived in rebellion against the laws of God and man, and remained in that
condition until he drew his last breath of air. Luke 23:39 (777)
B. There are people today who have the attitude of this man. Examples:
II. On another cross a man died to sin.
A. This man had also lived as a robber, but he came to the point of repentance.
1. He: admitted receiving due punishment (Luke 23:42-43), called on Jesus for
mercy (Luke 23 :42), expressed his faith in Christ )Luke 23:42) and received
eternal life (Luke 23:43).
B. There are people today who need to repent.
1. Admit they are sinners (Romans 3:23-p831; 6:23-p833), repent and obey Christ’s
command to be baptized (Mark 16:15-16-p748).
III. On the central cross a man died for sin. When we look at this cross:
A. We should feel ashamed that Jesus had to die for our sins. 2 Corinthians 5:21a (854).
Jesus died for ______________ sins.
B. We should be grateful for what Jesus has accomplished for us. 2 Corinthians 5:21,19
________ can (has) be made righteous because of the sacrifice Jesus made for me.
C. We see the good news of salvation. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (850)
D. Have I been united with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (His sacrifice)?

Conclusion: The first cross teaches us ……, the second ……, the third cross ………..
