  Introduction
  A. Review: We have dealt with expressing reverence for God during
  our worship.
  B. Let's focus on the consequences of irreverence toward God in public
  worship using the church in Corinthians as an example. 1 Corinthians
  11:17-34 (847)

  I. The conduct of the church members. Vv17-22
  A. Division existed in the church. Vv17-18

  1. Their assembly was disorderly. Vv19-22

  2. It seems that the members engaged in a feast or fellowship meal
  and some would eat when they arrived while others ate later 
  when they arrived. They didn't wait for one another..

  3. With the disorder there wasn't the proper environment for them
  to observe the Lord's Supper. The apostle Paul rebuked this 
  practice. vv 22,33-34

  II. Paul instructed them about the institution of the Lord's Supper. Vv 23-26

  III. The inappropriate observance of the Lord's Supper. Vv27-30
  A. A lack of careful preparation. V28
  B. A lack of thoughtful. V27
  C. A lack of reverence for God by the Corinthians members had 
  consequences. 
  1. V29 Judgment to themselves
  2. V30: weak, sick and dead(sleep) spiritually.

  IV. What should we do if we are guilty?
  A. Judge ourselves guilty and make the necessary corrections. V31  
  accept the chastening of our Heavenly Father so we won't be
  condemned with the world. V32

 Closing: I have been impressed with changes we have made in the observance
  of the Lord's Supper and the men who officiate are to be commemded
  for their preparation and thoughtful presentations.
