THE DESIGN OF THE CHURCH
                                                           Ephesians 3:8-11

  Introduction:
       A.  The church was eternally purposed in the mind of God (Eph. 3:11), lovingly purchased
by the blood of Christ (Acts 20:28), and beautifully perfected by the gifts of the Holy
             Spirit. (Eph. 4:11)

  I.   Three reasons for which the church of Jesus Christ has been designed:
       A.  The church has been designed to proclaim salvation.
             1.  Sinners need to know the truth.  II Thessalonians 1:6-10
             2.  The church has a responsibility and an obligation to teach the truth.  Matthew 28:18-
                  20, Mark 16:15-16

       B.   The church has been designed to constitute the saved.
             1.  Sinners need salvation.  Romans 3:23, 6:23; II Corinthians 6:17-18
             2.  The saved are added to the church by God. Acts 2:36-41,47
             3.  Jesus is the Savior of the church.  Eph. 5:23

      C.   The church has been designed to demostrate salvation.
             1.  We were created to engage in good works.  Eph. 2:8-10
             2.  We are taught to demonstrate good works (deeds).  James 2: 14-17, 20-24
             3.  We are taught by Jesus to reflect Him in our lives, thereby, bringing glory to God.
                  Matthew 5:13-16

  Conclusion:
       A.   As a member of the church, am I proclaiming and demonstrating salvation?  James
             4:17
