THE STATE OF THE SAVED AFTER DEATH (VIEW ONE)
Luke 16:22a
Introduction:
A. Where does a saved person go when he dies? What happens? What is his existence?
B. Let's consider two views regarding these questions. View one this morning.
I. What happens to a saved person when he dies?
A. His body goes to the grave, or back to the dust. James 2:26 (death): Ecclesiastes 12:
6-7 (death)
B. Where does the spirit go? James 2:26: At death the spirit has left the body. According
to this view, the spirit of the saved person goes to Paradise or Abraham's bosom in Hades when he dies. See handout.
1. The spirits of Jesus and the thief went immediately to Paradise when they died. Luke 23:43
a. We understand that Jesus went to Hades. Acts 2: 27,31
b. We understand that Lazarus (saved) went to Abraham's bosom in Hades.

c Paradise and Abraham's bosom refer to the saved region of Hades.

2. At some point in the future, Jesus will return to resurrect the bodies of saved people.
a. Note of course that Jesus was resurrected on the third day after His death.
I Cor. 15:3-8. Jesus had not ascended to Heaven. John 20:17. No human at that time had ever entered Heaven. John 3:13. Every saved person went to Paradise or Abraham's bosom.
b. The resurrected bodies (John 5:28-29; I Cor. 15:50-57) and their spirits will be united. I Thess. 4:14-17
3. Jesus will then judge all people. Acts 17:31, Matthew 25:31-33
4. The saved people will go to Heaven , their eternal home. Matthew 25:34,46b
